The thesis analyzes the processes of industrial transformation in Europe, focusing on managerial strategies and industrial policy tools implemented during three historical phases: industrialization (1950-1973), deindustrialization (1973-2015), and Reindustrialization 4.0 (2015-2022). The main objective is to understand how enterprises and institutions address the transition towards Industry 4.0, with particular emphasis on the role of public policies, social and economic dynamics, and the behaviors of key actors, such as managers, unions, and institutions. The research examines the broader industrial and political systems, comparing Germany and Italy as two countries with strong manufacturing bases but significant regional disparities, represented by Mezzogiorno in Italy and East Germany.

Abstract
