The paper describes the historical evolution of the demand for money in the economic literature. It points out the relevant dates in which new notions have been introduced in this section of economic theorising linking them to the changes historically occurred in the monetary and financial institution. The paper also outlines the analytical structure of the different approach to the demand for money arguing that none of them guarantees the stability of this demand function.
