Abstract
The presentation concerns a linguistic analysis of modality in the first English version of More’s Utopia by Ralph Robinson (1551). Specifically SHALL, MUST, SHOULD have been examined in relation to their semantic (Palmer 1990, 2001) and pragmatic values (Austin 1962; Searle 1969, 1983), and force (Fairclough 1995), as well as in relations set up by collocation and/or co-occurrence (Hoye 1997).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
