Using a theoretical model, this paper intends to show, first, that the confiscation of illegal assets can produce a direct impact on the choices of the criminal, reducing the expected utility derived from illegal activities. Secondly, it tries to show how the reuse for social purposes of the confiscated assets can favour the growth of mutual trust among individuals, sustaining an economy alternative to the criminal one.
