Archaic coinage as a documentary basis for a reflection on the political role of the Indigenous of Bruttium. Coins with Sybarite type. The study focuses on the archaic coinages with Sybaritic type traditionally ascribed to Indigenous communities of the Bruttium. These coinages refer to a debated historical framework whose borders have not yet been clarified and defined in detail. Bearing in mind updated, recent studies about the mint of Sybaris and other Achaean colonial states, their several features have been revisited. The technical, typological and epigraphic aspects, as well as, the amount and the consistency of the mints production and the spread of the monetary circulation have been investigated. The results have been revisited in relation to the current scientific debate.
