The Corbarino tomato.

The tomato is a plant of South American origin. It was initially introduced in Europe as an onamental species. After the discovery of the possibility of using its fruits as food, the cultivation of the plant spread even faster. The Corbarino Tomato is a small-medium size ecotype. The shape of this tomato is variable: oval, bulb, spherical. It contains important nutritional and healthy substances also compared to other Campanian ecotypes. In this contribution we have tried to outline, on a bibliographic basis, the salient features of this typical Campania product, with a restricted production area. One interesting fact that emerged is that the high nutritional quality of Corbarino tomato, coupled with its restricted area of production, could trigger the demand for rural tourism and could offer new opportunities to entrepreneurs engaged in the production of agricultural typical products.
