This article aims to analyse the term risque in the main French language dictionaries published in the twentieth century, a century in which great changes took place, generating a greater awareness of risk exposure and contributing to the semantic enrichment of the entry word risque. The first important dictionary is the Dictionnaire général de la langue française (1899- 1900), whose editors, while drawing on Émile Littré’s positivist model, began to renew it. Also, profoundly innovative are the contributions of Pierre Larousse and Paul Robert, the latter deeply revising lexicographic methodology. Also, of great importance is the Trésor de la langue française (1971-1994), edited by the philologist Paul Imbs.
