The project for the new school complex in a southern neighbourhood of Palermo starts with a reflection on the reliability of consolidated forms. Two intertwining rectangles originated by the memory of a large Roman Foro are then shaped to respond to the precise topographic and morphological conditions of the site, structuring a sequence of courts open to the city. The strong horizontality allows a certain adequacy of the insertion in the landscape, while making new order in the fragmented urban tissue. The new building aims to become an urban reference. Around three large courts we chose to insert the spaces for learning of the schools into a belt-building strongly aimed to define relations with the context fitting in an adequate dimension despite the volumetric importance of the proposed program. The structural idea is to build with a continuous sequence of wooden frames, spaces for thesis growth in a relationship of continuous correspondence between the inside and the outside.
