Paul Pic (1862-1944) was a professor of “industrial” law and international law at the University of Lyon, dedicated to the study of labour problems and the search for appropriate legal instruments to deal with the social question in France. Pic's biography takes on particular significance when considered in the context of a network of European jurists who, sharing themes and methodologies, began to apply comparative approaches to the study of labour relations in a programmatic way. From this perspective, it is possible to draw a collective biography describing the first steps towards the construction of international rules for labour regulation.

Abstract

Paul Pic (1862-1944) was a professor of “industrial” law and international law at the University of Lyon, dedicated to the study of labour problems and the search for appropriate legal instruments to deal with the social question in France. Pic's biography takes on particular significance when considered in the context of a network of European jurists who, sharing themes and methodologies, began to apply comparative approaches to the study of labour relations in a programmatic way. From this perspective, it is possible to draw a collective biography describing the first steps towards the construction of international rules for labour regulation.
