The main problem when approaching the economic history of the 19th century South of Italy is related to the lack of original data, both for pre- and post-Unification. Until now, targeted long-term datasets for extracting trends over long time periods on the South’s economic system are still lacking. To do something new, first we built original data from previously unexploited archival sources, for the entire 19th century.
