The aim of the paper is to provide a critical review of the new edition of the Die deutsche Katastrophe, edited by Bernd Sösemann (2018). In this new edition Meinecke’s work is enriched by broad sections, in which Sösemann collects the historian’s writings and letters from the period 1930-1950. In addition, numerous accounts of the work’s international reception, from 1946 to the present, are collected there. After analyzing the main themes of the Katastrophe, the article will review the material proposed by Sösemann, highlighting the perspectives it opens on the interpretation of Meinecke’s work.
