In September 2023, a team from the University of Naples “Federico II” carried out an archaeological excavation campaign in the area locally known as Faciano, located about 5 km away from the northern shore of Bolsena Lake in the municipality of Grotte di Castro (VT). The excavation, which was opened in the site of a surface scatter of Bronze Age ceramic fragments, revealed an archaeological stratigraphy heavily damaged by modern agricultural activities. Nevertheless, archaeological levels containing impasto ceramics were brought to light, suggesting the existence of a small settlement dating back to the Early Bronze Age.
