Gli esiti culturali di Fermo villanoviana dai decenni centrali dell’VIII al VI sec. a.C.

An animated debate on the most recent phases of Fermo necropolises, namely 7th-6th century BC, has arisen since the Mossa cemetery was discovered in 1968. Based on the preliminary analysis of the material culture and funerary rituals of Mossa tombs, which are still unpublished, scholars have supposed a radical change at Fermo as early as the end of the 8th century BC. This shift in the material culture and funerary ritual has been recognized as an ethnic transition of Fermo from a Villanovan culture to a Picene culture. A complete study of all the grave goods unearthed during the various excavations’ campaigns from 1968 to 1999-2000 and the analysis of the excavation record has allowed, for the first time, the understanding of the cultural dynamics that occurred in Fermo between the second half of the 8th and the 6th centuries BC.
