Recently, concrete-filled steel tubular arches have gained significant popularity in bridge building because of their constructive advantages and improved structural performance. Since approximately half of these applications are parabolic arches, attention has been focused on their out-of-plane stability, given that the majority of current research and design guidelines concentrate on circular arches. In the present work the out-of-plane flexural-torsional buckling behavior of parabolic arches under vertically distributed loads is examined in details and a generalized Ritz approach is used to develop a theoretical framework for analyzing the coupled buckling phenomena.

Abstract
Recently, concrete-filled steel tubular arches have gained significant popularity in bridge building because of their constructive advantages and improved structural performance. Since approximately half of these applications are parabolic arches, attention has been focused on their out-of-plane stability, given that the majority of current research and design guidelines concentrate on circular arches. In the present work the out-of-plane flexural-torsional buckling behavior of parabolic arches under vertically distributed loads is examined in details and a generalized Ritz approach is used to develop a theoretical framework for analyzing the coupled buckling phenomena.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
