Our aim in this short note is to underline how the concept of Schein rank of a fuzzy relation can be useful for acting lossy compression and decompression of images, here interpreted as two-arguments fuzzy matrices. We illustrate an algorithm based on the classical gradient method, which is implemented in JAVA, with a suitable example borrowed by our previous papers .
