Batch experiments have been carried out to study arsenic adsorption from aqueous solution by granular activated carbon (Aquacarb 207 EATM). Adsorption isotherms have been carried out between 10° and 55°C. Furthermore ionic strength and pH effects have been studied by adding NaCl and HNO3/NaOH to arsenic solution, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the adsorption capacity depends on the temperature and pH of solutions and a maximum is reached for 5<pH<8, while a rapid decrease is observed for external values. At last, an increase in sodium concentration results in a decreasing arsenic loading on carbon.
