Photodegradation of imazosulfuron 1-(2-chloroimidazo [1,2-a] pyridin-3-yl-sulfonyl)-3-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl) urea was carried in aqueous solution and in acetonitrile under UV-light. The rates of photolysis in both conditions followed first-order kinetics. The main metabolite in distilled was identified as (4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine-2-yl)aminocarbonylsulfamic acid (SDPM). A mechanism which accounts for the formation of the photoproducts is proposed.
