The seismic retrofit (carried out in the period February-March 2006) of the “Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime” in Siracusa, made substituting the bearings supporting its impressive dome with sliding seismic isolators equipped with elasto-plastic dissipators, is described. After an accurate description of the new anti-seismic devices, installed between the 22 columns of the structure and the truncated-conical dome, the different phases of the operation, the instrumentation and the data acquired during the raising and lowering of the dome, are examined in detail. Besides, the rehabilitation and reactivation of the continuous monitoring system of the “Santuario della Madonna delle Lacrime” will be examined in the second part of the paper. This structure is going to be included among those of the Italian network of buildings and bridges permanently monitored by the Italian Department of Civil Protection within the Seismic Observatory of Structures (OSS).

Abstract
This structure is going to be included among those of the Italian network of buildings and bridges permanently monitored by the Italian Department of Civil Protection within the Seismic Observatory of Structures (OSS).I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
