The paper reports on testing of a new coastal defence project to be built in Bagheria (Gulf of Palermo). The structures planned were entirely made of concrete units; the armor consisted of ECOPODE elements at the emerged parts of the breakwaters and of ACCROPODE II where the structures were underwater. Experiments have been conducted at the random wave basin of the DIGA department of the University of Naples Federico II, with the kind support of SOGREAH, which patented both ECOPODE and ACCROPODE II. Hydraulic model tests revealed the high stability of designed structures.
