The present paper examines the discursive and linguistic features of the UN Secretary-General’s annual reports over the last 60 years with the aim of highlighting the evolving features of this genre and demonstrating its development from an informative genre addressing the restricted discourse community of the UN General Assembly into a self-promotional genre aimed at the public at large. This study is based on a corpus of 37 UN Secretary General’s Annual Reports on the Work of the Organization from 1953 to 2010 made available in a digital format by the United Nations Dag Hammarskjold Library.

Abstract
