An analysis of ship detection algorithms is presented for potential application in a future ship detection facility which would make use of SAR products aided by AIS information. A validation of Wackrman’s algorithm is also reported based on images of the Gulf of Naples gathered by COSMO-SkyMed. It is shown that, although successful in most cases, different approaches are required to discriminate between ships and image artefacts.

Abstract
An analysis of ship detection algorithms is presented for potential application in a future ship detection facility which would make use of SAR products aided by AIS information. A validation of Wackrman’s algorithm is also reported based on images of the Gulf of Naples gathered by COSMO-SkyMed. It is shown that, although successful in most cases, different approaches are required to discriminate between ships and image artefacts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
