UNIVERSALITY VERSUS RELATIVITY IN THE METAPHYSICAL-TRANSCULTURAL THOUGHT OF RENÉ GUENON. René Guénon’s thought is a perfect example of absorption and use of a metaphysical-intercultural conceptuality pointed towards the formulation of a transcultural hermeneutical device. This latter is based on the whole-parts relationship between the Hyperborea primordial tradition (that is a Polar one, not Oriental nor Occidental, but constituting the «fixed axis around which the revolution of all things is fulfilled») and the oriental and occidental historical-cultural traditions. The first traditions are, however, favoured in respect to the latter ones which (apart from some isolated exception in the Classical and Middle Ages), according to Guénon, have lost any awareness of that universal primordial tradition which, conversely, the oriental tradition, albeit in its relative-universality, hand down ever and again. Through the deployment of a simple, majestic selfsame metaphysical thought which, in its empty formality, proves to be almost lacking of expressible content – the thought of the total and infinite Possibility of the One, universal and unchangeable, which remains motionless in itself in its Uniqueness, Guénon activates the conceptual power of a thought which is intercultural and transcultural at the same time, which recalls and reformulates the Hindu metaphysics rejoining it to the metaphysical esotericism typical of Islamic Sufism and China Taoism.
