Urban regeneration: layer by layer

The Programme of urban regeneration (P.R.U.) of the Traiano district in Soccavo, in the West on Naples, planned by Corvino+Multari, has been recently approved, starting the redevelopment and renovation of the urban area that will have an important effect on the overall livability of the neighborhood. The urban renewal project, which involves a series of public works such as a kindergarten and nursery school, a park, sports facilities, parking areas, an open market as well as private residence and commercial buildings, carries out a strategy that aims at the overlapping of a system of layers to ???patch up??? fragments of the city. The social value of the project is in the different approach to the role of the suburbs, giving an opportunity to places where specific characteristics of history and landscape create different identities. The concept looks at a broader landscape in which the project area belongs: it takes into account confluences, contradictions and geography, to assign to the project the role of ???centrality??? in the urban system.
