The commitment to the environment , which was once pursued by few subjects, is today shared by more and more sections of society and has become an integral part of the development programs of the government in many countries. These programs will not, however, sufficient if, at the same time, the users will not be made aware to change their attitude and to reduce the unbridled consumerism. You must found, therefore, a balance between the needs of our industrialized society and the needs of a natural world that, until now, has only been the subject of exploitation. The prevention and control plans that sustainable development requires in order to reduce consumption of natural resources, to reach energy saving and environmental remediation , can, if properly directed, develop new areas of operation. It is necessary that our activities will relate in a systematic way with the land and its resources in order to be able to quantify the energy load of each stage of a product's life, about the impact on the environment , the materials and the techniques used. The goal must be the conversion of the entire production system towards sustainable industrial processes and products. Whereas the Italian production system is mainly based on the close relationship of the company with the territory and the social context where it operates. It is a practical possibility of revival of industrial districts and of the chain for the enhancement of those productions that offer to local entrepreneurs the chance to reach margins of productivity according to environmental sustainability. The cyclical nature of agricultural production and their seasonal renewability, linked to the exploitation of local resources, may open a new testing of products and materials for building industry for entering a virtuous circle of high-quality production with multiple applications. The experiment should be oriented to develop methodologies for technology transfer and spin-offs within the production cycles of small and medium-sized enterprises . This process would have the advantage to enhance and strengthen the productive system of agriculture and to create a network of small companies for the production of high quality artifacts as well as materials and semifinished products for the building industry.
