This paper aims to identify knowledge brokers’ typology and related competences. The assumption is that skills and competences of knowledge brokers may vary based on environmental characteristics, environmental and productive context; kind of network the broker is involved in; width of key activities performed by the broker; broker’s affiliation; role of the partners. Based on multiples case studies realized in a moderately innovative country (Southern Italy), policies to enhance brokers skills and competences are proposed in order to improve this role as a facilitator of innovative processes within a business context
