Elemental quantitative analysis of gemstones, hiddenite and kunzite (LiAlSi2O6), topaz (Al2SiO4[F,OH]2), tourmaline (XY3Z6[T6O18] [BO3]3V3W) and Alexandrite (Al2BeO4), has been successfully obtained by Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). This gems have been choosed for the content of ultralight elements (Li, Be and B) and for the trace presence of chromophore elements (Mn, Cr, Fe, V, etc.). LTE-based calibration-free (CF) method has been chosen as analytical approach as well as the CF does not require the use of standards for chemical analysis if the LTE (Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium) conditions can be assumed at some specific acquisition time.
