Our paper analyses how memory and linked processes of remembering and reorientation become an explicit issue in a biographical narrative interview from the German corpus, Emigrantendeutsch in Israel, collected by Anne Betten and collaborators among immigrants from German-speaking countries in Israel. The focus is mainly on the metaphorical complexes used to put these cognitive processes into words. Applying Conversation Analysis, we investigate how these metaphors are developed in discourse, both as the interviewer-interviewee interaction allows for a co-construction of metaphors and in formulations showing evidence for metaphor clusters and metaphor mixing. The present study also aims at revealing the emotional involvement of the two interlocutors during the interview, since, as a confirmation of studies from linguistic and biographical research, it will be evident how metaphors access and express a wide array of cognitive, sensory, and emotional structures.

Abstract
The present study also aims at revealing the emotional involvement of the two interlocutors during the interview, since, as a confirmation of studies from linguistic and biographical research, it will be evident how metaphors access and express a wide array of cognitive, sensory, and emotional structures.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
