The reflections, studies and solicitations gave rise to “F.A.R.O. (Finanziamenti per l’Avvio di Ricerche Originali)” a Federico II University-funded project whose research and analysis we present in this volume. Following an interdisciplinary approach between sociology, psychology and law, the project aims to analyze, in a comparative perspective, the degree of emancipation reached by Italian cities in terms of Lgbt inclusiveness. The goal of the project was to develop an new index to synthetize the Lgbt situation in Italian cities through these indicators: 1. Civil Rights; 2. Welfare services; 3. Urban Security; 4. Lgbt Organizations; 5. Labour and Social Security; 6. Sociability and tourism. The Italian Rainbow City Index allowed to create a ranking of Italian rainbow cities.
