We want to briefly go over some stages of the evolution of photography from its origins, and to dwell on some figures that, with their work, have helped to highlight the close link between photography and engineering, where photography has proved to be not only an instrument useful for documentation, storage of information related to built heritage, but also a valuable means for its understanding and dissemination. In recent times, with the advent of digital photography and with the emergence of technologies aimed at indirect sensing, these possibilities have significantly increased, allowing better knowledge of contexts compromised by time, by degradation or by critical events, to ensure the best conditions for use and use of information
