Italian FADN data have been processed in order to draw a general picture of farm income levels in the Italian agriculture and to classify farms by viability, the ability to guarantee to agricultural households a fair income, and profitability, the ability of the farm to remunerate family owned factors at their opportunity costs. Income and profitability levels were the base to assess how farms are likely to persist in the medium-long run both with and without CAP payments.
