Recovery collective memory of place.The Cirio industry in Paestum

The fabric “ex-Cirio” abandoned by 1987, placed in the archaeological area of Paestum in front of the ancient Justice Gate, represents a great potential for the area. Inserted within the feasibility study for the creation of the “Archaeological Site of Paestum” (realized from CIPE with funds from the Ministry of Heritage and Culture), in which prefigures a restoration and new functions of the factory with the excavation of the Sanctuary St. Venera placed beneath one of the sheds. The proposed contribution to knowledge, throught the historical and bibliographical reserches directly related with the direct study of the architectural structure, aims primarily at providing a contribution of a cognitive type of architectural structure. This is part of a series of early industrial architecture of the 900 lots in Campania at the behest of Cirio, but is unique not only for the value of collective historical memory, which represents the area, even for of the relationship with the archaeological pre-existence of the Sanctuary of Santa Venera. Secondly, it aims to show how the recovery of material values (architectural and archaeological) and intangible (a collective memory of historical production site), rappresented an inseparable and preparatory poles for the recovery activity aim to the conservation and the development of the architecture.
