Socrates is an important figure to interpret and understand some theoretical matters of Neoplatonism. In Late Antiquity he seems to have not anything of the Platonic character that we know through the dialogues, therefore only a recognition of some Neoplatonic texts allows us to realize the differences. We can understand better the ‘Neo-Socrates’ not only through the Socratic dialogues but also through the text used before the study of Plato and through the commentaries of the theological dialogues. Here Socrates is seen as doctor of the souls and supreme lover of the wisdom and of the divine beauty.

Abstract
Socrates is an important figure to interpret and understand some theoretical matters of Neoplatonism. In Late Antiquity he seems to have not anything of the Platonic character that we know through the dialogues, therefore only a recognition of some Neoplatonic texts allows us to realize the differences. We can understand better the ‘Neo-Socrates’ not only through the Socratic dialogues but also through the text used before the study of Plato and through the commentaries of the theological dialogues. Here Socrates is seen as doctor of the souls and supreme lover of the wisdom and of the divine beauty.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
