Since 2000 the University of Napoli Federico II is leading a research program in the Southern Quarter of Velia. The recent archaeological investigations allowed the discovery of new urban structures, affected by several building phases after each alluvial flood event. Furthermore, the excavations returned an interesting ceramic assemblage, dating from the 4th cent. BC to the 6th cent. AD, offering a significant outlook on the productive trends and the circulation of imported goods. The recent geo-archaeological analysis provided chronological constraints to the landscape modification, occurred after the alluvial fan deposition. In this paper, we discuss data deriving from the analysis of an archaeological-stratigraphical trench (02.12), focusing on the methodological approach developed in order to better reconstruct the relationship between the environmental and settlement changes, following the “Alluvial archaeology” guidelines.

Abstract
Since 2000 the University of Napoli Federico II is leading a research program in the Southern Quarter of Velia. The recent archaeological investigations allowed the discovery of new urban structures, affected by several building phases after each alluvial flood event. Furthermore, the excavations returned an interesting ceramic assemblage, dating from the 4th cent. BC to the 6th cent. AD, offering a significant outlook on the productive trends and the circulation of imported goods. The recent geo-archaeological analysis provided chronological constraints to the landscape modification, occurred after the alluvial fan deposition. In this paper, we discuss data deriving from the analysis of an archaeological-stratigraphical trench (02.12), focusing on the methodological approach developed in order to better reconstruct the relationship between the environmental and settlement changes, following the “Alluvial archaeology” guidelines.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
