This short essay presents a case study of an investment in a thermal establishment in the 1870s in Naples. The Bagni del Chiatamone, built by Baron Oscar De Mesnil in Naples in the late 1870s, was conceived within the great and widespread European thermal culture, but within a very short phase, which prompted some operators to build establishments factory on the model of the thermal ones, but near the sea. It was a phase destined to succumb under the force of the fashion of bathing in the open sea and in fact the investment of Baron De Mesnil was short-lived and within a few years it was converted into hotel accommodation.
