Based on the comparative debate on the role of public endorsements for political primaries, this chaper provides an overview of the distribution of the endorsements received from party actors in different institutions and levels of government by three candidates for the Italian Democratic Party leadership in the 2017 competition. We discuss the possible impact of the endorsments from party prominents on the electoral campaign and the final victory of Matteo Renzi.
