The fake artwork discipline is a phenomenon that has developed in the international and European context since the 1970s. The International Community has begun to regulate the matter through Treaties and Conventions relating to the protection of Cultural Heritage and the Convention fighting against illicit tra!cking, more recently also with European Union acts to combat terrorism. The Italian legislator has opted both in the cultural heritage code and in the recent law of 22 March 2022 number 9 for criminal protection in order to increase awareness of the importance of cultural Heritage in the Community and create an e"ective deterrent that discourages criminal conduct.
