The Hospitium of Albinus was one of the first buildings explored in the Porta Ercolano area of Pompeii during the second half of the 18th century. It is currently part of a research program led by the University of Napoli Federico II and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. The project aims to analyse the building’s construction phases and its relationship with the urban sector of the Insula Occidentalis. In 2022 the excavation of room w allowed to discover the previous phases before the construction of the “Hospitium”. These phases were referable to two rooms and a water management system, partially identified. The analysed phases of the pavements and the identification of an N/E entrance to the cryptoporticus provided further elements for the interpretation of the building.

Abstract
The Hospitium of Albinus was one of the first buildings explored in the Porta Ercolano area of Pompeii during the second half of the 18th century. It is currently part of a research program led by the University of Napoli Federico II and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii. The project aims to analyse the building’s construction phases and its relationship with the urban sector of the Insula Occidentalis. In 2022 the excavation of room w allowed to discover the previous phases before the construction of the “Hospitium”. These phases were referable to two rooms and a water management system, partially identified. The analysed phases of the pavements and the identification of an N/E entrance to the cryptoporticus provided further elements for the interpretation of the building.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
