Over the past decades women's participation in the workforce has increased substantially, but they are still underrepresented at higher organizational levels worldwide. This paper aims to capture current evidence in a rigorous systematic review across contexts, on potentially effective organisational interventions that can advance women in healthcare leadership. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) checklist was used for this systematic review. Studies published in English in a peer-reviewed journal between January 2000 and March 2021 were included in this study. Studies were divided into 4 categories including 1) leadership commitment and accountability, 2) work-life integration, 3) reporting and enforcement mechanisms, 4) gender bias elimination. Finally, the paper proposes a framework of intervention levels to improve female leadership. Individuals, organizations and institutions should work together to overcome the gender barriers to woman in leadership roles.

Abstract
Over the past decades women's participation in the workforce has increased substantially, but they are still underrepresented at higher organizational levels worldwide. Individuals, organizations and institutions should work together to overcome the gender barriers to woman in leadership roles.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
