Abstract

Fired bricks were one of the most important products of the Hellenistic workshops of Velia. Ongoing research has defined the morphological and epigraphical aspects of the production, controlled by the local administration through a stamping system. The paper proposes the first reflections on the problem of bricklaying, a topic not yet discussed in the literature. Various structures have been analysed, which have preserved the original elevation in fired bricks. Additionally, new data emerged from the study of the stamping system, which reveals many data of the organisation of production process.
