prEN1998–1-2 provides the material-dependent rules for the seismic design of buildings in the second generation of Eurocode 8. The rules for the seismic design of chevron concentrically braced frames (Λ-CBFs) have been significantly revised in both moderate and high ductility classes. This paper presents a parametric numerical study on a set of 6-storey Λ-CBFs compliant with the second generation of Eurocode 8, considering different levels of seismicity and ductility classes with the aim to assess the effectiveness and address potential criticisms of the design rules for Λ-CBFs. The results of this study are discussed in terms of design overstrength, steel consumption, and capacity curves.

Abstract
