Il contributo delle industrie nella scrittura del territorio all’ombra del Vesuvio: il lavoro dell’ingegnere Pasquale Amodio a Torre Annunziata a metà Novecento/The Industrial Contribution to the Urban Design at the Foot of Vesuvius: Engineer Pasquale Amodio’s Work in Torre Annunziata during the Mid-Twentieth Century

The character geared to the industrial activities of the area in the province of Naples has undoubtedly a long history. Specifically, the town of Torre Annunziata, due to its geography and existing infrastructures, has always established itself as one of the best places in Campania for the secondary sector. This paper aims at analyzing the industrial contribution to the urban development of the former Oplontis during the mid-twentieth century, when the rate of pasta production was still high, and the iron and steel industry was expanding. Key fi gure for the urban transformation was the not-well-known Engineer and Academic Professor Pasquale Amodio, whose projects for the pasta factories in Torre Annunziata, Ilva, and Dalmine have deeply influenced the growth of the town. La vocazione industriale del territorio della provincia di Napoli ha indubbiamente una storia lunga; in particolare, la città di Torre Annunziata, per sua conformazione geografica e per le infrastrutture presenti, si è da sempre rivelata uno dei luoghi campani migliori per il settore secondario. Con il seguente saggio s’intende analizzare il contributo delle industrie nello sviluppo urbanistico dell’insediamento oplontino a metà Novecento, quando la produzione dei pastifici era ancora alta e il ramo siderurgico si stava espandendo. Figura chiave, e poco conosciuta, di tale trasformazione urbana è quella dell’ingegnere Pasquale Amodio, docente accademico e professionista molto prolifico, i cui progetti commissionati dai pastifici oplontini, dall’Ilva e dalla Dalmine hanno influenzato fortemente la crescita della città.
