In 1515, the printer Iohannes Angelus Scinzenzeler published in Milan an edition of Virgil’s works, which contained together with the usual Servius’s commentary, the commentary of the humanist Aulo Giano Parrasio (Cosenza, 1470-1521) on the first two books of the Aeneid. Although this commentary is the only exegetical work on Virgil published by Parrasio, it is part of a reflection on the works of Virgil that Parrasio carried out during his life, which is testified by a corpus of Virgilian documents that belonged to or were produced by Parrasio. The present work aims to examine the printed commentary in the light of both the traditional exegesis on Virgil and Parrasio’s documents on Virgil.

Abstract
In 1515, the printer Iohannes Angelus Scinzenzeler published in Milan an edition of Virgil’s works, which contained together with the usual Servius’s commentary, the commentary of the humanist Aulo Giano Parrasio (Cosenza, 1470-1521) on the first two books of the Aeneid. Although this commentary is the only exegetical work on Virgil published by Parrasio, it is part of a reflection on the works of Virgil that Parrasio carried out during his life, which is testified by a corpus of Virgilian documents that belonged to or were produced by Parrasio. The present work aims to examine the printed commentary in the light of both the traditional exegesis on Virgil and Parrasio’s documents on Virgil.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
