This article examines the use of Doppelurkunde in both the Greek and Latin papyrological evidence of Roman Egypt. The differences between the Roman and the Hellenistic forms of double document are reviewed, and two main formats are identified (based on the position of the subscriptions on the recto or on the verso) in relationship to the different document types. New identifications of double documents are also discussed.
