In recent years, Naples has assumed a new role as an extraordinary destination for cultural tourism, becoming one of the most popular global destinations. According to the World Tourism Organization, cultural tourism is associated with travel motivated by cultural reasons, such as study trips, performances, and pilgrimages. In a dense and layered city like Naples, cultural heritage has become a key element of the economy, not only as a resource to be preserved but also as an asset to be integrated into contemporary urban life. In this context, the Open House event, which originated in London and arrived in Naples in 2019, aims to promote participatory knowledge of architecture by opening historical and contemporary buildings to the public for a direct and free experience. This event, which involves both local and international tourists, represents a model of heritage tourism that strengthens the connection between the city and its architectural heritage, also in response to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, fostering new forms of participation and cultural engagement.
