This proposal aims to contribute to the exploration of the role of architectural and urban projects by proposing actions to improve the health and well-being of the life of city dwellers and the health of the cities themselves. Through an fragment of the city of Naples – the former Provincial Asylum "Leonardo Bianchi" – some principles and criteria are referred to and drawn upon in order to direct urban transformations towards more health-friendly approaches. Within contemporary cities, the linking up of residual green spaces represents an opportunity to take care of the city and consequently something to be taken care of by the city in a truly sustainable development.

Abstract

This proposal aims to contribute to the exploration of the role of architectural and urban projects by proposing actions to improve the health and well-being of the life of city dwellers and the health of the cities themselves. Through an fragment of the city of Naples – the former Provincial Asylum "Leonardo Bianchi" – some principles and criteria are referred to and drawn upon in order to direct urban transformations towards more health-friendly approaches. Within contemporary cities, the linking up of residual green spaces represents an opportunity to take care of the city and consequently something to be taken care of by the city in a truly sustainable development.
