In the suburban area between Porta Ercolano and the forecourt towards Villa dei Misteri, the archaeological site offers several routes to reach the Villa of Diomedes and the basement Villa of Cicero, such as the via dei Sepolcri and the ‘road to the sea’. This essay dwells on the naturalistic, as well as the archaeological and urban, values of this area, proposing planning choices for accessibility in compatibility with ancient remains and the peculiarities of the landscape.
