This contribution briefly summarises the author's oral presentation at the Lecce Conference (2021) Heritage Geographies: Politics, Uses and Governance of the Past. In the aftermath of the nomination of the Neapolitan island of Procida as Italian Capital of Culture, the strengths and weaknesses of the island's territory are analysed in order to look at the development opportunities that such an event could present.
