Nel 1943, l’esercito degli Stati Uniti assoldò segretamente Erich Mendelsohn e Konrad Wachsamann per progettare la fedele riproduzione delle tipiche unità residenziali berlinesi dell’epoca, al fine di testare e massimizzare la forza sterminatrice delle bombe che avrebbero poi annientato la capitale tedesca. Nello stesso sito nel deserto dello Utah, chiamato Dugway Proving Ground, e con lo stesso intento, Antonin Raymond progettò la riproduzione in scala reale di due unità residenziali giapponesi. In 1943, the US Army secretly hired Erich Mendelsohn and Konrad Wachsamann to design accurate reproductions of typical Berlin residential units of the time, in order to test and maximize the incendiary strength of the bombs that would later destroy the German capital. In the same site in the Utah desert, called Dugway Proving Ground, and with the same intention, Antonin Raymond designed the full-scale reproduction of two Japanese residential units.
