This study examines the interaction between Spanish and Neapolitan in Naples during the 16th and 17th centuries, within the context of Spanish domination. Using the concept of “selective permeability”, it analyzes how Neapolitan absorbed and adapted elements of Spanish while maintaining its linguistic identity. Despite Spanish's prestige as the court language, its influence was limited by the high status of Tuscan and cultural resistance. The study considers factors such as power, contact intensity, linguistic attitudes, and structural similarities to explain this phenomenon.
