The paper examines the emergence of the Camorra in Pagani (Salerno) during the 1970s, proposing a third trajectory of clan formation that transcends the urban-rural dichotomy. In this agricultural context, clans did not emerge from traditional rural criminal groups but through new formations shaped by urbanization and modernization. This hybrid genesis, blending urban and rural influences, reveals the socio-economic and political dynamics un- derpinning organized crime. The findings enhance understanding of the Camorra as a plural and context-dependent phenomenon.

Abstract
The paper examines the emergence of the Camorra in Pagani (Salerno) during the 1970s, proposing a third trajectory of clan formation that transcends the urban-rural dichotomy. In this agricultural context, clans did not emerge from traditional rural criminal groups but through new formations shaped by urbanization and modernization. This hybrid genesis, blending urban and rural influences, reveals the socio-economic and political dynamics un- derpinning organized crime. The findings enhance understanding of the Camorra as a plural and context-dependent phenomenon.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
